XXXII,574 pp. First published in London in 1854. - The author, a botanist, explored the Sikkim and East Nepal Himalaya in the years of 1848-50. This is an account of his journey and his botanical observations, and is a classical Himalayan literature in the early Himalayan explorations (Yakushi). Hooker's journal further displayed his observant nature with his many pertinent comments on the social and cultural characteristics of the natives he met (Riddick 127).
