Modern half calf, spine ribbed and with gilt lettering. 269,(26) pp. Aymé, imprisoned during the French Revolution, was sent to Guiana (Devil's Island) as a prisoner. After a year he escaped in an American ship bound for Gothenburgh. The ship encountered a very bad storm in the North Sea, and at last struck on the coast of Scotland, near Fraserburgh. Most of those on board were lost, but Aymé and a few others were taken off the wreck by a boat from shore. Aymé at last returned to France.
